Yes, Nagoya is less known than Tokyo or Osaka, but it is located in the center of Japan, literally CENTER, which gives international travelers advantages to explore Japan. Traveling north takes you to Tokyo and south to Osaka. See? Nagoya is GREAT, isn't it?
Furthermore, you do not have to worry about the complicated train system you might experience in Tokyo or Osaka. Especially, easy access from Chubu Airport to downtown Nagoya is available: only ONE best transportation available. It is not operated by JR line (which means unfortunately Japan Rail Pass is not valid), but by a private railway company Meitetsu line. You just hop into Airport Limited Express Train, the Meitetsu μ-SKY Limited Express train (μ = Greek Letter for MU), you can reach Nagoya Station (called Meitetesu Nagoya) in 28 minutes for 870 yen.Here is another catch!! We would choose the Rapid Limited Express train or the Limited Express train, not the the Meitetsu μ-SKY Limited Express train.
As long as you DO NOT sit in the first-class car, you do not have to buy MU ticket (for 360 yen). This ride needs a little extra minutes in travel time.
